community and consults with mission agencies and churches regarding ways of developing and enhancing member-care programs that encompass both the spiritual and emotional needs of missionaries and their families.
Prior to her current position, Kathy served for 14 years as Missions Pastor and Pastor of Missionary Care at the Whittier Area community Church in Whittier, California. In that role, she directed a missions program and offered member care for the 200 family members of the church's missionaries serving in 21 countries.
Kathy is a graduate of Asbury College. She took graduate studies in Student Personnel Work in Higher Education at Michigan State University and in Biblical Studies and Theology at the Institute of Biblical Studies. The daughter of missionaries, Kathy was born in Beijing, China and spent most of her growing-up years in Asia. This personal experience, coupled with her later training and ministry, has given her a special sensitivity to the emotional and spiritual needs of missionaries and their families, and to the interpersonal, vocational and developmental needs of missionary personnel.
Kathy presented a paper on "The Emotional Needs of Missionary Children" at the first International Conference on Missionary Kids in the Philippines in 1984. She has authored articles on missionary care, and is co-author of the book, Kindred Spirits, a biblical study of the role of interpersonal relationships in the Christian life. She has also been actively involved with other mission leaders in developing ways of ministering to missionaries and their families, and has served on the board of directors of several mission agencies.
In 1995 Kathy was invited to address ministers from around the world during the Global Congress on World Evangelization held in Seoul, Korea. She has traveled extensively ministering to missionaries in Australia, Brazil, Central African Republic, Democratic Republic of Congo, Ethiopia, France, Germany, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Japan, Kenya, Mexico, Philippines and Uruguay.
Kathy and her husband are the parents of two married children. Their son Richard is a senior editor with McGraw Hill Publishers in New York City, and their daughter Debbie Narramore Hewitt is a high school teacher in Fort Collier, Colorado.
